Hi, I’m Anthony Sorosky, founder of Canine Rescue Resource and Montecito Dog Inc. I grew up roaming the hills and beaches of Goleta and Santa Barbara back when there were no leash laws and the dog catcher was still called by that name. My dog just ran freely along as I rode my bike and threw rocks into the creek. No one payed us any mind. I wasn’t the one keeping track of him, he was keeping track of me.
Now, many years later, I am here in Montecito spending my days with the best kept dogs; privileged pups. From my 15. Years of experience and the resulting successes working in Santa Barbara County came this non-profit vision called Canine Rescue Resource.
To help Rescue organizations fix the troubled dogs.
Many things have changed over the years as we built our dog training business. I have watched as the term Pound Puppy transitioned into Rescue dog and now to Fur Baby, a term that still makes me cringe. Another change that I am happy to see is the exponential growth of the rescue community. Through the stellar efforts of local community, the Santa Barbara Humain Society has close to a zero kill rate for un-homed canines. That’s amazing, and it’s a challenge. That means behavioral issues that would have been unacceptable in the past are now a daily part of a dog owners life and that of their family.
In the world of Dog Training there is an ever louder conversation about regulation and certification. This is, or someday will be, a very good thing. For now it is turning out scores of young enthusiastic trainers who have a certification paper but virtually no hands on experience. They know all the new lingo and have a name for every movement a dog makes. But they don’t know how to read the dog and go to the root of the behavioral issues. They can see the result but not the cause of the bad behavior.
Canine Rescue Rescue was created to address these very issues. Through years of hands on experience and countless failures and successes following conventional dog training wisdom I have come to create my own unique training style unlike any other I have witnessed. My dog training and behavioral change approach is born out of observation of many dogs, dog trainers and life itself. Much like Outward Bound for wayward kids, I take difficult dogs back to the basics of how they use their bodies and make choices. Past trauma in the city has no bearing on how to climb over a rock or swim up a river in order to keep up with the pack. My aim is to change the way the dogs brain processes information. I want them to think differently, not just behave differently. We have facilitated this drastic transformation in countless canines.
My vision for Canine Rescue Resource is to create a legacy where the things I have learned can be past to a new generation of trainers. I want to see challenging canines develop new healthy behaviors. So they won’t be stuck in a shelter or create a life of challenge for a willing but unprepared adopter.
